I’ve had a makeup passion since I was fourteen and I’ve been through plenty of rough beauty stages to prove it. It all started with makeup but now I’m completely obsessed with every part of my beauty routines – from shampoo to lipstick! I wanted to give that to you! So, I put together this visual list of everything I’m using and loving right now. This way, you have new favorites every month… right at your fingertips!
Yup, this blush is called “Super Orgasm” and that’s exactly what it is. Well, almost. Typically I would tell everyone to steer faaaar away from blushes with glitter in them because they’ll bring out texture & dry patches on your cheeks. But after blending this one onto the apples of my cheeks, I feel glowy & flawless. This is definitely the exception.
I know so many people who will apply foundation, concealer etc. and then be done. I’m not one of them. I HAVE to set my face with powder to hold it all on. It’s like the glue before the setting spray; and if you choose not to invest in a setting spray, this is your next best bet. I was a die-hard fan of the Laura Mercier translucent setting powder for years but being so dry already, it seemed to soak up every last bit of moisture I had left – if you’re super oily, check that one out. When I found this powder I was in love. It has the finest sheen to it to enhance a natural glow – rather than mattifying your face until you look like a chalkboard.
Ahhh… good ‘ole setting sprays… Or are they? One thing I see most in people when it comes to purchasing a setting spray: skepticism. I was there once too… wondering if it’s REALLY worth it to spend $32 on a bottle of liquid to spray on my face after doing my daily makeup. It is. There’s something about the dreamy hydration & glow that you get when this spray beautifully melts your powders and creams into one. For me, it’s a necessary finishing touch.
While makeup shopping is quite possibly one of the best things I can do, finding a new foundation falls at the other end of the spectrum… No, seriously, it’s SO hard. Okay, okay, first world problems. I know. But being this pale is hard when every foundation I apply oxidizes and turns me into an overly-orange mess. I found this darling by Benefit two years ago and I always find myself going back for more. Sure, I’ve tried tons of others. But nothing quite compares once you find “the one”. I’m in the shade “I’m Pure 4 Sure; Ivory”. This baby blends seamlessly into every inch of my skin… even those stubborn dry patches. It’s satin finish gives you the “glow” we all talk about and dream of.
A pale girl’s blinding highlight dream… This one is “Pearl” by Becca.
Genes are an interesting thing, aren’t they? Somehow I was passed on the lovely dark-under-eye-bag trait… boo. I also have tiny little lines under my eyes that probably nobody can see but me. But isn’t this why makeup is fun? I set myself up a long time ago to find a heavy duty concealer (one that didn’t necessarily feel heavy duty) that didn’t seep into fine lines but also covered the puffy dark part of my eyes that I was so frustrated with. And then I found her… I’m in the shade “Chantilly” but there are like a zillion more to choose from. Seriously, check it out.
Beauty blender, aka never-use-another-makeup-sponge-again. I’ve considered dedicating whole blog posts to this thing but I would never shut up about it. This is hands down the best way to apply foundation and concealer – the pointed tip is super helpful for that. Not to mention, now everyone is suddenly experimenting using it with powders as well. It’s the do-it-all makeup tool you NEED.
Simple, natural, gentle and squeaky clean. This face cleanser is everything you need.
Once upon a time, I went on the hunt for the perfect fragrance… It was a loooooong one. But once I found this one, I was set for life. If you’re a girly-girl looking for the perfect warm and fuzzy scent to wrap yourself in, look no further. When I wear this I feel beautiful from inside out. Pink Sugar sticks with me all day and makes me smell like I’ve been at grandma’s house baking sugar cookies for weeks…. not complaining.
Recently I decided to chop all my hair off. And not in the metaphorical sense where I got a trim and I’m missing a few ends. I mean I literally went from chest-length hair to nearly a pixie cut. At the time I was thinking “CHANGE!” but now I’m thinking… ehhhh not so much. This product helped me transition into short hair in the most amazing way. I loved having one product to do it all because, well, there’s not much you can do with hair that short. If I had a wonky piece sticking out, I glued that sucker down with this stuff. If I wanted to move a piece of hair to frame my face but didn’t want to commit to a hairspray, I reached for this stuff. If I wanted to mess up the back of my hair and play with texture, this was my go to. It does it all.
I’ve tried heavy moisturizers that felt almost like foot creams, leaving my skin oily and gross looking. I’ve also tried gel moisturizers that soaked into my face before I could even finish applying them – remember that thing about being dry? This one is the best and most refreshing balance. Everything from its lightweight gel-cream consistency to the way it immediately shrinks my pores makes me smile from the inside out.
If I had to pick one beauty product to get me through the rest of my life… this would be the one. Growing my brows out has led me on a very stressful journey this past year. Aside from my tweezers, this is the baby that helped me through all the tougher brow days. Retractable brow pencil on one side, spooley on the other. Being able to create perfect and defined, realistic, hair-like strokes… this is well worth it for $20.
Have I mentioned how pale I am yet? It’s rough. I spent the better part of my teenage years trying to self-tan with DIY recipies like cocoa powder & body lotion. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t work. When I found this bronzer, it was love at first blend. This is quite possibly the softest, most delectable smelling bronzer I have ever tried. And they make it simple; Too Faced offers Milk Chocolate (my shade!), Chocolate and Dark Chocolate. I’ve even used this as an eye shadow. .. major brownie points for this one.
My clear skin is one thing I’ve always been super proud of. My mom taught me at a young age to take good care of my skin & to wash my face every night and it’s paid off big time. But every winter my skin suffers from texture & dry patches… and if there’s one thing makeup can’t cover, its texture. I’m a firm believer that your beauty routine starts at the beginning, with what’s underneath. I found this gem about a year ago and I haven’t let myself run out of it since! I love that this is so gentle; you can use it up to 4 times a week! Plus… who wouldn’t want to exfoliate with real brown sugar & strawberry seeds?! As you exfoliate and polish your face, the mask dissolves into a soft oil base that you can leave on up to 15 minutes to continue moisturizing (I’m guilty of leaving it on for up to an hour at a time though!). This is my favorite mask AND exfoliator, because it’s both in one; total win for you and your skin.
Remember that rose Bubbleroon I talked about before? Well, if you decide you’re not feeling much like a bath today, try this Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. It is the SAME scent as the Bubbleroon and definitely my favorite post-shower moisturizer to date!
There was a time, long ago, when I was just a wee girl learning the ropes of the Cosmetology industry. I found this dry shampoo when I was hired as a receptionist at my first a salon, three years ago. Yes, I still use it. No, I’ll probably never stop. I was originally drawn to Amika for their signature (and very colorful) packaging but I stuck around for their perfect quality and unique scent. When I say this stuff smells amazing, I mean it. All of their products are based around the same scent and they even created a room spray in the same scent as all of their hair products! Even with my dark hair, I never get white roots with this (as long as I hold it at least 6” away). Rather than adding a film to your hair that only makes it LOOK cleaner, this will have your hair feeling freshly washed.
A macaroon bubble bar? Yes please. Aside from fighting animal testing, one thing I love about Lush products is that they’re handmade and for the most part, very natural. I’m one of those people that definitely appreciate all of the natural earthy scents but if you’re not, this ones for you! This scent is the perfect combo of rosy & girly goodness! Not to mention, nearing the end of winter it’s a lifesaver for dry skin. The center of the macaroon is Shea butter and the outsides are packed with rose oil and glitter. This one makes my bath time super sweet…
Believe it or not, there was a time in my life when cuticles didn’t matter and nail care was far & few between. Then I started a job as a Nail Tech at an upscale salon and wow I learned SO much. In case you haven’t realized, when it comes to my beauty routines the main idea is hydration & moisture. I never did a nail service without this cuticle oil… and it kept everyone coming back.
