JUST CALM DOWN: 3 Ways to Actually Do It
You can do anything, but not everything. Ever been having what feels like the worst day possible, yet everyone you cross paths with seems to tell you “just calm down” or “it’ll be okay”… Yeah, we’ve all been there. Let’s face it, stress isn’t special to a select few of us – we all have it. It took me a long time to realize that nobody can control it but me. And it took me even longer to see how important it really is to take care of your mental well being. I’ve always been somewhat of a pessimist, assuming the worst & planning for disaster; but I found a few simple ways to bring peace back into my daily life… and to my mind.
Aromatherapy & Essential Oils
Aromatherapy is such a versatile way to bring calm into your life. You can…
- Drop a concoction of essential oils into a diffuser – I got mine at Amazon!
- Put them into your bath
- Light candles! Even if your candle isn’t scented with an essential oil – it can still bring you peace. You’d be amazed how powerful smells are!
- Buy a pillow spray. Before bed, my mind is always running like crazy. I spray my whole bed (not just my pillow) with this stuff every night.
- Make shower time the best time. At least 4 times a week I use shower products from Bath & Body Work’s Aromatherapy line.

My method: 7 seconds in though your nose, 4 seconds out through your mouth. The best part is that you can do this one anywhere, anytime and in front of anyone. I used to get super frustrated and anxious over everything. Now I just breathe; you’d be surprised how much peace of mind this can bring.
You go to work all day, you come home to a list of chores, dinner to cook or another project to do… when’s the last time you had some you time? Time alone doesn’t always mean staying in all night to take a Lush bath & binge watch Netflix… although that doesn’t sound too shabby either. It took me a while but I learned to appreciate even the smallest of moments by myself.
Taking time alone (yes, even a few seconds) gives your mind a chance to think about your day so far, process your choices and emotions and set small goals for the rest of the day (or even bigger ones!). Talk to yourself about whatever is on your mind and remember that YOU are in control of the emotions you allow into your life!
Did you know that on average we think 60,000 thoughts per day? Use those thoughts to fuel positivity and success in your life! I recommend checking out Jake’s video on living a happier life here, it changed my perspective on everything!
