Finishing Leftovers: Tortilla Wraps into Chips
So if you can’t tell by now, I’m alllll about customize-able foods. I’m also a big believer in wasting as little as possible in the kitchen! I am so excited to start the “Finishing Leftovers” post series on EK! I’ll show you my simple & unique leftover-cooking hacks for kitchen clean-out days.
I always buy tortilla wraps in hopes of making quesadillas or healthy wraps rather than sandwiches. But they always get pushed to the bottom of the bread drawer, far beyond the Cinnamon Raisin Swirl & White Italian breads.But today I’m making homemade tortilla chips out of them (FOUR ways!) to minimize waste and maximize snacking.
All chip flavors start with a base of 1 – 1 1/2 TBSP of Olive Oil. I chose olive oil for my recipe but you can choose any kind you like; Coconut oil, Vegetable oil etc. I chose to make four different flavors today!
Salt & Pepper Chips: Pink Himalayan Salt, freshly ground black peppercorns, Grill Mate’s Belgian Style White Ale seasoning
Hot & Spicy Chips: Mrs. Dash Extra Spicy seasoning, a small amount of Grill Mate’s Steakhouse Onion & GM Chipotle Roasted Garlic seasoning, Pink Himalayan salt
Taco Chips: Salt (you guessed it – I used Pink Himalayan again!), cumin, chili powder, parsley, McCormick Perfect Pinch Mexican seasoning
Garlic & Herb Chips: Salt, Garlic powder, oregano, parsley, rosemary, basil
Preheat oven to 400 degrees (F).
Mix spices of choice and olive oil together, set aside.
Stack tortillas together (I used low carb & whole wheat today!) and lay on a flat surface. Cut into triangles, or desired shape.
Lay tortilla pieces out onto cutting board for easier cleanup. Cover evenly with oil & seasoning mixture, placing one by one onto ungreased baking sheet (use 2 if necessary). Afterwards, cover other side of tortilla pieces with mixture as well.
Put chips into oven for 5-6 minutes or until edges start to crisp. Remove from oven and flip all chips. If you used 2 baking sheets, rotate them on oven shelves as well. Put back into oven, lowering temp to 350 degrees.
After 5-6 minutes, remove chips again. Toss together. If you’d like crispier chips, put them back in the oven, checking every 2-3 minutes until crispy enough.
